Treatment

Blue zircon gets its color from gentle heating of brownish zircon crystals, a practice in Cambodia for generations. Nearly every blue zircon sold has been heated, and the color is stable in everyday wear. One tip: keep it away from tanning beds and UV nail lamps. Strong ultraviolet can give it a temporary brownish cast, which a short time under an ordinary incandescent bulb restores.

Care & Setting

Zircon can be brittle despite its excellent brilliance. Clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush; avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning and protect the stone from sharp impacts.
