Gemstones have been collected, traded and treasured for thousands of years. Yet for most people, buying a loose gemstone remains surprisingly difficult.
Color, cut, clarity, rarity, treatments and origin can all influence what makes one stone different from another. Descriptions are inconsistent, photographs can be misleading, and two gemstones that appear similar at first glance may be very different in quality, rarity and character.
Otzera was created to make that world easier to navigate.
We curate natural gemstones for people who appreciate their beauty, rarity and individuality — whether they are purchasing their first loose stone or building a collection over many years.
Rather than simply placing gemstones online and leaving the buyer to determine what matters, Otzera brings professional gemological judgment into the collecting experience.
Our Approach
A Different Way to Buy Gemstones
Every gemstone that enters the Otzera collection is examined as an individual object.
We look beyond basic information such as weight and dimensions to consider the qualities that give a gemstone its character: color, cutting and optical performance, clarity and transparency, rarity, treatments, provenance where supportable, and the characteristics that make that particular stone worth collecting.
That evaluation becomes part of a larger system built around transparency.
Each Otzera gemstone is individually cataloged, assigned a unique Otzera identification number and secured in its own numbered case. Its Digital Gem Passport provides a permanent record of the stone and the information associated with it. A QR code on the case links straight to that record, so the gemstone and its documentation never travel separately.
The O50 evaluation system adds another layer of context. Developed specifically for Otzera, it organizes professional gemstone evaluation into a clear 50-point framework so collectors can better understand why a stone was selected and how its important characteristics were considered.
The goal is not to reduce a gemstone to a number. Gemstones are far too individual for that. The goal is to give collectors a better framework for understanding them.

The O50 is not a laboratory report and not an appraisal. It is a considered expert assessment of what makes an individual gemstone worth collecting. Where an independent laboratory report exists, it is identified separately and speaks for itself.

Collecting is the center of what we do. We want people to discover gemstones the way they might come to coins, watches, art or wine — learning gradually, developing preferences, and building something meaningful over years.
That does not make Otzera only for dedicated collectors. Many of our customers are buying a stone for an engagement ring, a commission, or a gift, and they always will be. What we offer them is something extra: even a gemstone destined for a setting can carry a documented identity, an expert assessment and a story of its own.
What we sell is loose natural gemstones. What makes us different is that we treat them as collectible objects.
The Expertise Behind the Selection
A Name Behind Every Assessment
An expert opinion is worth what the expert behind it is worth. Otzera is founder-led, and every gemstone that carries an O50 evaluation was examined by the same pair of eyes.
Eitan Tashey, GG (GIA)
Otzera was founded by Eitan Tashey, who earned his Graduate Gemologist diploma in residence at the Gemological Institute of America in New York in 2006, and has worked in the gem trade since.
That work has spanned many sides of the industry: behind the microscope in the laboratory, where stones are identified, graded and tested, and in the auction room, where they are valued, cataloged and sold to people who care what they are buying. It has meant years with PGS Laboratory, as well as time in the salerooms of Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago and Alma Auctions in Tel Aviv. He is invited regularly to speak on gemstone identification and valuation at national industry conferences.
It has also meant going to the source. Field visits to mines and treatment facilities in Myanmar and Thailand, conducting interviews to understand how stones are actually found, treated and traded — and buying trips to Chanthaburi, the center of the global colored-stone cutting and treatment trade. Disclosure standards are easier to hold to when you have seen for yourself what happens to a stone before it reaches a listing.

Expert, but approachable
Technical credibility without intimidation. You should not need to be a gemologist to buy well — only to be told the truth clearly.
Transparent
Treatments, laboratory documentation, limitations and compromises are explained rather than hidden behind marketing language. Where a stone has been enhanced, we say so.
Curated, not accumulated
Otzera will not become a warehouse of thousands of interchangeable stones. Selection is itself part of the value.
Premium, but not closed
Important high-value gemstones alongside genuine entry points for newer collectors. Beginning a collection should not require a fortune.
The Long View

We are not trying to redefine what makes a ruby, a sapphire, an emerald or a tourmaline valuable. Those qualities come from geology, rarity, beauty and the market itself.
